Message from our Board Chair and our President & CEO
Dear Friends:
Thank you for embracing our mission and supporting Easterseals NH, VT & Farnum. Together, we are building a strong and unified community of care that creates opportunities and offers equitable access to services for thousands of individuals and families.
We are incredibly grateful to our donors, who generously contributed over $3 million in 2022 through our campaigns, fundraisers, and events. Every gift given touched a life and made an impact.
We spent 2022 adjusting to fewer COVID restrictions, reconnecting with our community in person, and setting our bold plans for the future in motion. The shift back to in-person client sessions, group activities, events, and staff celebrations has been a welcome change for all.
Behind the scenes, our staff worked tirelessly to meet the needs of clients of all ages in our classrooms, clinics, treatment facilities, community settings, and residential homes. At the same time, we made exciting progress toward meeting the goals of the ambitious strategic plan we introduced last year, which we titled Seizing the Future with Intent. We’ve included more details about our plan and updates about key projects in the pages that follow.

Champlin Place
Easterseals NH offers a range of services to support aging in place with dignity. We are increasing our impact to include affordable housing for adults 62 or older. In November 2022, we broke ground in Rochester, New Hampshire, on our first affordable apartment community for this population. Champlin Place will offer 60 one-bedroom and five two bedroom apartment homes in a three-story, secured-entry building on grounds adjacent to the 300-acre William H. Champlin Forest and close to the supportive services of Easterseals NH’s Adult Day and Homemakers & Health Services programs.
Every apartment at Champlin Place has an income limit, with 25 homes reserved for households whose gross income is not more than 30% of area median income. Features will include elevators, indoor mail delivery, a community room, on-site parking, an outdoor leisure space, and accessibility and mobility accommodations.
We are collaborating with a highly experienced group of funders, developers, designers, architects, and builders to ready Champlin Place for residency in September 2023.

Gammon Academy at Zachary Road
Exciting plans are underway to update our residential campus and school facility at Easterseals NH Gammon Academy at Zachary Road. Thanks to the generous support of Eversource and Liberty, in partnership with other statewide utilities, we have installed new lighting and building insulation throughout our residence hall. These energy efficiency measures will make our students’ lives more comfortable and reduce energy costs.
In the next year, we will begin a multimillion-dollar new school building addition that will transform the Gammon Academy campus. The addition will enhance the existing residential building and bolster the educational learning environment with flexible multi-purpose rooms, spaces for parents to visit, technology upgrades for conferences, virtual parent visits, trainings and staff meetings, and teachers’ rooms with bathrooms that include showers. Work has already commenced and is scheduled for completion by September 2024.

New Veterans Campus
Our Veterans Count program connects thousands of service members, veterans, and their families to resources and financial assistance annually. With support from the State of New Hampshire, we are on a quest to do even more. In the coming year, we plan to expand access to housing and services for New Hampshire’s underserved military and veteran community. We are creating a comprehensive military and veteran campus on a 15-acre parcel of land in rural Franklin, New Hampshire, that will include permanent and supportive housing and a retreat center. Integrated care coordination, therapeutic and recreational services, and an array of services from collaborative partners will be offered on-site.
With a focus on providing high-quality, coordinated, and holistic services in conjunction with safe, stable, and affordable housing, The Veteran Campus will be the regional Center of Excellence for veterans’ services across New England.

Supporting Our Clients and Staff

Kendy
Adopting a child comes with many rewards. But the process is not without challenges. Kendy is so appreciative of Easterseals Vermont’s Post Permanency Services. Her Post Permanency Support Person, Jill, has been there for all her ups and downs, providing one-on-one support, answering questions, and helping her connect to resources. Today, Kendy can’t imagine a life without Jill’s caring support and the valuable services the Post Permanency program provides. “Jill is the one person who ties it all together,” says Kendy.
Sam
Sam reluctantly began attending Easterseals Adult Day in Manchester two days a week. Now, he willingly attends daily for companionship and exercise while his wife and primary caregiver, Tammy, works part-time. Adult Day gives Sam a safe place, while he also enjoys the cognitive benefits of being social and active that help him remain at home with Tammy. “Adult Day helps me out one hundred percent,” says Tammy. “I don’t have to worry about Sam at home alone.”
Ayden
According to Youth Transitional Services (YTS) participant Ayden the best thing about his job at Port City Pretzels is getting to socialize with his coworkers. Holly Augustonovich, YTS Employment Specialist, helped connect Ayden with the Portsmouth, NH-based pretzel retailer. The position fits Ayden’s interests, skills, and experience well. Ayden’s enthusiasm for his job and employer shines through when he talks about his work. “I do love the job stuff here. I love everybody here. I call them my ‘work family.’ I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them,” he says. Easterseals NH was pleased to award Port City Pretzels the 2022 David P. Goodwin Lifetime Commitment Award for its outstanding commitment to the disability community.

Elise
Delivering therapy to children in comfortable surroundings and supporting them through their formative years is a highlight of Elise’s career. Doing so also plays a critical role in outcomes. Elise, a pediatric occupational therapist for children three and under in Early Supports & Services, teaches parents and caregivers to use what’s readily available in their homes – toys for grabbing or a coffee table for cruising – to help children continue to make progress between visits. With her coaching, parents gain confidence in supporting their children. “I’m putting parents in the driver’s seat,” Elise says.

How Eastern Propane & Oil Delivers for the NH Military Community
Eastern Propane & Oil’s support of local service members, veterans, and their families goes beyond the occasional charitable donation. The Rochester, NH-based energy provider has made it business as usual. Every time one of its Veterans Count-branded trucks rolls up to a customer’s home, one penny per gallon of the propane delivered goes back to Easterseals New Hampshire’s Veterans Count program.
Since 2003, Eastern Propane has donated generously to Easterseals NH Veterans Count. Over time, the veteran-friendly company’s support has not only added up but expanded. Eastern Propane began supporting the Lakes Region chapter of Veterans Count in 2016, then took on sponsorship of the chapter’s annual Wolfeboro Pirates Cove 5K in 2018. That same year, the number of Veterans Count-branded trucks increased from one to five. On Veterans Day 2022, Eastern Propane presented a check to Veterans Count for the charitable proceeds for the year’s propane deliveries.
“We are honored by Eastern Propane’s ongoing commitment to Veterans Count and the local military community,” says Kathy Flynn, Easterseals NH Senior Director, Major Gifts & Planned Giving.
“Thanks to their generosity, we have connected hundreds of service members, veterans, and their families to critical resources and services.”
Eastern Propane’s 90-year-long commitment to philanthropy, community, and its employees is reflected in its support of Veterans Count. About ten percent of Eastern Propane’s workforce are active-duty or former service members.
“Veterans Count gives this underserved population the support they need,” says Eastern Propane Brand and Marketing Manager Whitney Cloutier. “What they’ve seen and been through is more than any of us will truly ever know. There’s no way to put a value on what Veterans Count does.”

The Runnymede Formal
The 10th Annual Salute Our Soldiers Gala, held by the Seacoast Chapter of Veterans Count and presented by Service Credit Union, broke previous event fundraising records, raising over $1.1M to support New Hampshire service members, veterans, and their families. The chapter organized an evening to remember at historic Runnymede Farm in North Hampton, NH. In addition to our Diamond Sponsor, Service Credit Union, this elegant black-tie event was made also possible by several other generous donors and sponsors.
Eversource Walk & 5k Run
We had almost 1200
participants flood the streets of Manchester, NH, with orange, raising $149,000 for our NH programs at the 23rd annual Eversource Walk & 5K Run for Easterseals. Over the years, the Eversource Walk & 5K Run has raised over $3 million for Easterseals NH. We are so grateful for our enduring partnership with Eversource and the ongoing enthusiastic support of its employees.

Spirit of Hope
The 2022 Farnum Spirit of Hope event raised over $60,000 to help individuals recovering from substance use. We were honored to welcome former client Ryan Sherwood (right) as our featured speaker. Spirit of Hope funds go toward residential treatment, medical detox, prescription medication, counseling, and aftercare support. Many thanks to Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield for being a repeat sponsor of this important fundraiser.

Over the Edge
Thirty brave rappelers descended an 11-story building in Barre, Vermont, last July and raised over $30,000 for Vermont programs and services. Not surprisingly, several dedicated Barre community leaders like Chief of Police Braedon Vail and City Manager Nicolas Storellicastro (left) joined us for the trip down the side of North Barre Manor.
