Share a Little Bit of Your Love...Wheels for Love!
The McKelvie Intermediate School CAT Team, with support from our Student Council and school community, is proud announce that our 5th “Wheels for Love Drive” to benefit the Easter Seals' ES Riders has ended. We raised $7,344.56 making a total over a five year period of $34,079.96!
On Thursday, April 18th, McKelvie presented a Segway to Joshua Pajunen of Derry, New Hampshire. Joshua had also raised $2,225.00 towards his Segway. The extra money of our combined efforts will be used to purchase a Scooter for another ES Rider in need of mobility.
The mission of ES Riders is to provide Segways to individuals who would benefit from increased mobility. ES Riders has just expanded their mission to include scooters, in order to reach out to more individual in need of mobility.
Joshua was born with severe hydrocephalus which means fluid (CSF) builds up around his brain. This fluid put so much pressure on his brain that Joshua now has some permanent brain damage. Joshua uses a walker and crutches but still has a hard time with long distances. He is non-verbal but clearly makes his needs known. Joshua also has a great sense of humor. He is an extremely friendly and caring boy who loves to make new friends and have fun!
Joshua is the 9th individual McKelvie has helped. When the scooter is purchased, we will have helped ten individuals. Our effort and additional donations from corporate sponsors has made this possible. Be sure to check out pictures of past recipients under Joshua's picture.
