I’ve been a self-professed runner for the past ten years. One of the reasons why I enjoy running, and running races in particular, is because the race fees required to participate are normally donated to a charity hosting the race. Over the last ten years, I’ve run a lot of races, and as a result have been able to donate to a lot of worthwhile causes. However, I always knew I could do more.

In April, I was approached with an opportunity to volunteer for Easter Seals Massachusetts. After researching the organization, I quickly agreed to participate. During the past five months, I’ve had the opportunity to witness first hand a number of the great services Easter Seals provides. Easter Seals provides services to ensure that children and adults with disabilities have equal opportunities to live, learn, work, and play. These services include providing employment and computer skill-building training, creating memorable experiences through camps, as well as facilitating grassroots activities to influence public policy to meet the needs of people with disabilities.

It was only natural and only a matter of time before I utilized one of my older passions to help build awareness of a newer passion of mine. In order to raise money for and awareness of Easter Seals, I’ve decided to run the 2011 Bay State Marathon on behalf of the organization. To help facilitate my fundraising efforts and increase the awareness of Easter Seals, I am blogging about my training for the marathon. You can access my blog and have the ability to donate to my campaign through the following link:

Almost 90 cents of every dollar donated to Easter Seals is used to provide direct services for children and adults with disabilities. Your contribution will make a real difference in people’s lives.
