Satisfaction from fundraising
Five years ago, Matthew — who's 14 and lives with cerebral palsy — took it upon himself to raise money for a cause that's close to his heart: children with disabilities.
He has a made a big impact, raising more than $30,000, and touching many with his charm and positive attitude.
This year's Walk With Me Houston only adds to that total, making "Matthew's Challenge" an even bigger success. Along with his family — his twin sister, Sarah, and his parents — Matthew walked the event course, and he saw many familiar faces along the way, including friends who attend Easter Seals summer camp with him.
"It's a fun time," the eighth grade honors student says. "Anyone thinking about doing it should go, get your friends to sign up, and help this great cause."
Matthew's mother, Suzy, says she's very proud of her son and that Walk With Me is the "perfect family event," from the pre-walk festivities to the party after.
"You can really feel that you're part of something," she says. "It's very meaningful."
