This assistance is available for the short or long term.

Job Development - Our Easter Seals employment specialist helps individuals with developmental disabilities or ABI in securing employment by assisting with resume preparation, job-seeking and interviewing skills, as well as by contacting employers on their behalf.

Job Placement - Easter Seals Wyoming provides job-placement services for people with developmental disabilities or ABI who are work-ready, but may require some assistance in obtaining employment. Our employment  specialist may also facilitate worksite and/or job modification as needed, or assist in modifying or eliminating architectural barriers.

Supported Employment - A placement service which promotes community-based, integrated competitive employment for people with varying degrees of developmental disabilities or ABI. Our employment specialist, or job coach, works individually with each worker on behaviors, social skills and adjustment to the work environment. The job coach teaches the job and helps develop natural support systems on the job. This service is provided for as long as the individual remains on the job or needs assistance.

Meet Larry

Larry and Joey's Fishing

When Larry first came to Easter Seals Wyoming in Sheridan it was obvious that he was not content. Larry struggled initially in every program area. Through patient conversations we began to grasp the intensity of the desire fueling his discontent.  Larry wanted something more than his cart wrangling job at a local retailer, daily class activities and outings and household chores. He wanted purpose in his life—something he could excel at that would make a difference for someone else, bring him respect and make him feel part of the community.  Larry was aiming high and staff was determined that he succeed.

Larry’s love of fishing and fly-tying emerged as a possible starting point so we arranged for him to meet Joey Puettman, director and founder of Joey’s Flyfishing Foundation.  Joey’s is an organization that provides flyfishing experiences for at-risk youth. Joey saw a kindred soul in Larry and immediately agreed that they would benefit from one another.

And so Larry’s journey began.  He spent the summer helping Joey and his staff as they took groups of young people out on fly fishing expeditions. When at Easter Seals, Larry began to stand taller and he began volunteering for activities.

Today Larry accepts instruction with a nod and a smile and continues to assist Joey as he presents fly tying seminars throughout the area.
