1996 “A Capital City Christmas”: Court Street Fountain

Cast by J.L. Mott Iron Works of New York, the fountain was erected in 1885 over the artesian well known as “Big Basin” on the site of the first Montgomery County Courthouse. Court Street Fountain, the most visible symbol of Montgomery, is topped with Hebe, the Greek Goddess of Youth and cup bearer to the gods. Hebe faces north to welcome visitors that once came to the city by train and river boats.
